Jordyn, an ASAP fan, sent us a message about her mom, that to me, shows just how much we are loved by our family members even when we feel like a burden. Please remember that you are all loved, just as much as Jordyn loves her mama. I wanna just say a few things because my mom has AS, shes had it for about 6 years now. She actually started having symptoms at 17/18 years old (currently 51) but at that time no one knew what it was. Shes also adopted, and her adoption is closed therefore she had no idea that this genetic disease was in her. The past two years have been the toughest. She has had countless surgeries and even a few more to go. I wanna say 85/90 percent of her spinal cord has been touched by some sort of surgery. The doctors told her shed be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life but she told them no and to this day she is still walking. My mom is the toughest woman I have ever met. I remember she had a neck surgery and two days later got on a plane to Philadelphia for a business trip. She has never let this hold her back and she believes this is Gods plan and he has chosen her to help doctors understand it and find cures. There are days where she feels so useless and feels like a burden because shes not like who she used to be, but I beg to differ because as a family we bring her back to peace, and weve all accepted it, we all understand its not her fault. My dad has been especially amazing towards her, he has shown me what love is because I pray that if I was in this position that I had a husband like him. Its a difficult subject to talk about that Im tearing up about it. But I wanted to tell you that theyre are strong people who go through horrible things. My mother is a very strong woman who believes she has a gift. She is also a fighter. Her next surgery is in the next two weeks and she is only person I know who gets excited about going under the knife. I thought Id share a little something because its something I personally dont hear a lot about and its difficult for me to explain to people who ask because it gets emotional.
