Jores Okore has vowed to return “even stronger” from his ruptured cruciate ligament as the Aston Villa defender prepares for surgery today. Okore suffered the season-ending injury in the defeat to Newcastle earlier this month and faces nine months of rehabilitation after the operation on his right knee. The 21-year-old Danish international, who joined Villa for £4 million from FC Nordsjaelland in June, has a positive outlook after overcoming the initial disappointment.“I was really down and sad the first couple of days,” said Okore. “At the beginning I just thought it was a minor injury and that I would be out for a couple of weeks. So it was really a big blow when I was told about the serious injury.“It’s really harsh for me that I’m out for so long a time now, because I felt I had the chance to play in the team every match.“I expect to go through the operation on Wednesday, and after that I will fight to come back in the same shape as before. I’m confident that I will come back even stronger.“I have never had this kind of injury before, so it will strengthen me mentally, but I would gladly have avoided this situation.”Okore impressed Paul Lambert with his first performances for Villa and the manager has offered the centre-half plenty of encouragement since he hurt his knee.“I feel that I got a good start to the season and was able to show the manager and the fans that I can play at this level,” added Okore.“That was really important for me. The manager also told me that he was happy with my start in the club and that shouldn’t worry about anything and just focus on getting back.”
