Jose Mourinho is facing a dilemma in going in line to the FA and UEFA rule regarding theHomegrown Quota ( number of home-grown and non home-grown players) he will have to field in the 2014-15 season. He should field 17 non home grown players above the age of 21.But out of the squad,Josh McEachran, John Terry, Nathan Ake (club trained) ,Tomas Kalas, Ryan Bertrand, Gary Cahill, Victor Moses, Cesc Fabregas and Romelu Lukaku (association trained) are home-grown. Tomas Kalas has been loaned out, Victor Moses might not feature in Joses plans as he didnt uproot all weeds while out on loan to Liverpool, Ryan Bertrand probably has no future pending the arrival of experienced Felipe Luis while McEachran has been left out of the pre-season European tour. All of Petr Cech, Thibaut Courtois,Mark Schwarzer, Branislav Ivanovic, Felipe Luis, Ceasar Azpilicueta, Nemanja Matic,Ramires, Oscar, Edin Hazard, Obi Mikel,Willian, Andre Schurrle, Mohamed Salah,Fernando Torres, Diego Costa and Didier Drogba are all inelligible to homegrown players. This means The Special One will be forced to promote academy boys either Lewis Baker, Nathaniel Chalobah, Isaiah Brown, Jeremie Boga or Patrick Bamford to cater for the minimum of 8 home-grown players. He can also auction the non home- grown players which likely can be Torres, Mikel, Cech or Victor Moses.
