Josef Kucher and I would swap stories when we were apprentices for European Masters...sitting in his back shop. I felt I was just a violin maker....but this was a true Master whose two gifted hands could shape leather like nobody else on earth. He was always interested in the latest violin I made....and I just so enjoyed anytime I could watch Joe at work in his shop. No straight lines....just a plaster form and absolute proper craftmanship, with pride.....and the shoes that emerged were pure exquisite art. Thanks Joe for letting me use your 5 in 1 and trying my hand here and there at simple shoe repair, and the many precious and fleeting moments we spent together talking shop, tools, conservative thinking, and keeping an art alive. I told many people how you made me the finest new banjo strap I ever had a few years ago....with absolute precision. To one of my Masters, to my friend, to one who helped shape my life and direct my trajectory to a more straight path....may God welcome you and grant you a recompense a 100,000 fold for the kindness you extended to me, and indeed, an entire community, with a genuine Love and Faith that will be remembered always. Rest In Peace Josef Kucher, and prayers and blessings rest upon your ever faithful and smiling wife. Godspeed!
