Joshua 1:1-2----1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—the Israelites. Finally the wilderness journey comes to an end for the Israelites. However, the one person these people had counted on year after year to lead them to their promised land was dead. The daily manna which had rained down from heaven would stop. They would no longer me nomads in a dry, barren wasteland. Now they would have to build permanent homes, plant fields and vineyards, even fight for the land they were to possess. They would no longer be complaining about the miraculous provisions God had given them daily--manna, quail, water, protection, guidance. Crossing over into this promised land would hold many changes and new challenges. Joshua was now the leader of the people. Although he had been Moses right-hand man I would imagine he had his own way of doing things. Change is not easy, even if it is for the better. While reading about this, the Lord showed to me how it compares to our lives before we become a Christian and then to our lives after we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. We leave familiar ground (as sinful and ugly as it might have been) and enter into a new unchartered life of praise and worship, obedience and servitude (I use this word in the most positive of ways), grace and salvation, a promise of eternal life in Heaven with our LORD. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 Former things are passed away and we enter into a new life. I have walked the wilderness road many times. Perhaps others are wiser than I have been, for once they found the land of milk and honey they kept their path straight and remained there. I, however, have taken the wrong path many times and returned to the barren wasteland of despair. Sin creeps in silently, unnoticed, uneventful until it grows into a cancerous infected sore that pulls us down physically, mentally, emotionally and most important of all spiritually. However, even the pathways of a desert can build ones faith. Surviving the wilderness journey brings much joy and a stronger confidence in GOD. There is an excitement which can be found only in living the Christian life. 1 John 3:2 Beloved, we are Gods children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. Blessings to all of you and remember to let the faith keep you.
