Joshua Study- March 25th- Today we look at the second cursing, found in verse sixteen of Deuteronomy twenty seven: Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen. The key word here is light: it is an ancient Hebrew word, kaw-law, that means to hold in low esteem, or hold in contempt, or despise or be vile towards. This refers us right back to the ten commandments again as we look at verse twelve of chapter twenty of Exodus: Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. It is the fifth commandment of the ten commandments: this cursing says that if you hold your parents in low esteem, or see them as being contemptible,or despise them or act vile toward them, God will place upon you this cursing, and you will not receive the blessings of God on your life. Now the third curse in verse seventeen: Cursed be he that removeth his neighbors landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen. In Deuteronomy 19: 14 we find this, Thou shalt not remove thy neighbors landmark, which of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the Lord thy God hath given thee to posses it. And then in Proverbs 22:28, Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. Then in Proverbs 23: 10, Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless. What God is telling the people here, and is telling us in modern day and times, dont move someones boundary or border marker, so that you would be stealing property, or land, from another person. You may not think its very important to move a marker so that you appear to have an extra foot or two of property, but God says its serious and He will hold you accountable and one of these cursings will fall upon you for disobeying Gods laws. Now verse eighteen and the fourth cursing: Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen. Now, this one gets really serious with God and you may think that just because you guided a blind man in the wrong direction, just for a joke, that it would be okay. just a harmless joke. Well, God isnt talking about a blind man that cant physically see with the eyes, but he is talking about pointing souls in the wrong direction. Lets look at II Corinthians 4: 3, 4 ; But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: (4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Then in Matthew 23: 13 we find this, But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Now we see the real blind that God is speaking of here. Those who keep the ones that are thursting after righteousness and salvation are being blinded by the religious crowd into believing ...a lie and being damned. That is a serious offense with God. We preached all about that from the book of Jude which is the apostate church and apostate preachers of Gods word. Tomorrow, Lord willing, we will move onto verse nineteen. May your souls be blessed of God and your lives filled with compassion. Pastor Joe Raulerson
