Josiah Chiemezie Nnamani: FERDINAND ODINAKA IGWE: A TRAGIC END OF A FRIEND!!!! AN ORATION BYJOSIAH C. NNAMANI II, 22-11-2014: He was a son, A hopeful father, and an emerging Environmentalist . Tragically he was only a son to his father, his dreams to be an environmentalist and a father to a son and a daughter was short lived on Thursday 6th November, 2015. That faithful day,Ferdi as hes fondly called; Died in a auto-crash along Enugu-Abakaliki expressway, as he then was, a 200 level Environmental science student of Ebonyi state University Abakaliki, Odinaka was going back to write his second semester examination after much dogged effort to make the best result, he got caught in the recklessness of todays drivers in a Nigeria state. I am deeply saddened not only by his death, but in the gruesome manner in which he died, He sat on the front seat of an eighteen seater commuter bus headed to Abakaliki with another Ebsu student, the accident was fatal as the two died. What marvels my imagination is the story of the other falling student, unlike Odinaka; who got injured and was rushed to the hospital, the other boy got no physical injury; He went home to his family at Oraifite street Abakaliki. As he glorify God for saving his life with his mother He slumped talking Tragedy!!. He has graduated but was also coming back to write a Carry Over. For ODINAKA his death was the end of a Generation, a closure of a peaceful era, both Ebonyi state and Nigeria has lost an emerging Environmentalist in a world ravaged by Global Warming with few people inclined to saving the future generation from this coming threat of Global Warming.Odinaka why so soon, you left myself,Josiah; you passed without waving a good bye to your Room-mate Ikenna, you couldnt tell your course mates its time and am taking a bow. And I asked myself who would knock on my window for me to open the gate at 4am, after night class again? Who would cook and call my attention that the food is ready? You encouraged me when the tide was low, when the trails and tribulations got me down you rose up to the rank of a brother to console me. You told me that by December, 2014 we will celebrate your going into 300 level , that day is coming but its so gloomy, the future is so scary if I imagine as that day draws even closer without your presence. My heart is in furry. When Rosy Kennedy screamed in 1969 What have I not seen with the death of three sons, the death of a son and daughter in plane crash, the assassination of two sons and a failed lobotomy of a daughter Indeed I can feel this pain to the last, The Death of a close friend and how his matriarch would feel. Odinaka Igwe was just 23 years, a young son, with years ahead and numerous prospects in life, its was still morning yet on his creation day. His life was cut short, no one imagined he would pass that day, its heart aching that instead of seeing his fathers grave, The reverse is the case, his old man is going to see the burial of his young son at 23. Todays is the day you will be laid to rest, at your IYIONU home Ishielu LGA of Ebonyi state, I sincerely wish to state that like your mother, father and sisters I am in deep pains, like your faculty and departmental mates I am down with thoughts about your life. its about hours from now, and there would be an Eclipes of a Generation. The inordinate desire of the Ezillo people to kill Ezza people must be called to order yet another time, for turning back numerous Mourners of Ferdinand Igwe of over eight buses, who were on their way to his village for wake-keep on Friday 21st November, 2014(being Yesterday) the Ezza/ Ezzillo crisis was their flimsy excuse for attempting to unleash mayhem on Mourners who are mostly students. Evil thrives when the good men keeps silent Ebonyi state Government and Nigeria federal government must wade into this crisis, the least Ezillo people can do to Odinaka Igwe is to allow his numerous mourners to pass to his village for his final respect and interment. Odinaka as you embark on your final journey to the mother earth, we are in agony, we wish you could just wake up and directs us on how to go about this pains and the vacuum your exit has created. The reality is on ground, you are no more, you will never be seen again, your serene smile is confined in our imaginations, your guys are wailing in tears. What is the essence of our stay here on earth its nothing but Vanity, Rest in Peace my friend and my brother, what remained of you is Legacy, your good deeds to all who knew you speaks louder than the voice of myriads of warriors. When you go home Tell our ancestors and others, That because of our tomorrow they gave their today. Odinaka!!!! Yes it is true!!!!! the song is ended, the dance steps has seized, But the Melody lives on. Goodnight rest to the other world where death would never touch you anymore. An Oration for ferdinand Odinaka Igwe by JOSIAH C. NNAMANI II. 22-11-2014.
