Journal of a recent oilfield employee entry #2 Last night, a boat was approaching in the distance. I immediately fashioned a makeshift lance and shield out of a pipe and a piece of grating. As I was rhythmically beating my shield with my lance atop the birds nest glaring at what I thought was an immediate pirate threat, I was told to stand down. Actually the exact words were What the hell are you doing? Same thing. The tribe on the boat called themselves Grocery Boat. A deal was struck (of which I do not know the details) and we unloaded food and supplies. Apparently this is a tribe of seaborne hobos. I say this because after we unloaded the supplies, we loaded the container back to the brim with cardboard boxes. This struck me as a strange trade, but to them, the value of cardboard far outweighs food. This will be handy for future trades. 31 mph winds made push opens extremely difficult this morning. Combine that with sideways rain and it felt like the wrath of a thousand hornet butts. Incidentally, when opening a large garbage sack during the early hours of the morning, I discovered a viable means of escape from this metal island. Should a fire break out, be sure to grab your sack and jump to safety.
