Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Child Temperament: New Thinking about the Boundary between Traits and Illness Child Temperament: New Thinking About the Boundary Between Traits and Illness by David Rettew, MD, addresses issues related to child development and psychopathology that extend far beyond the limits of “temperament” per se. Although the book is written through the lens of temperament, it perhaps more accurately presents a dimensional perspective on the developmental psychopathology of key emotional and behavioral characteristics of childhood. From this perspective, it provides a wealth of information for the mental health clinician on issues ranging from historical theoretical models, gene and environment interactions and epigenetics, and the neurobiology of cognitive and affective states. A second section devoted to “applications” provides a range of clinically useful information, from parenting approaches and educational interventions to more global family-based preventive mental health approaches. ift.tt/eA8V8J
