Journaling helps us express our thoughts and feelings to the Lord Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah As people that have been saved by the blood of Jesus we sometimes go through hard times; there will be times when you have done all you could to get that job but you don’t get it at the end. There will be times when you have done everything to win the heart of a brother or sister but this brother or sister loves another person. Or you are in a relationship/marriage and you have done all you could to save this relationship or marriage but it just seems the more effort you put is the more get worse. You are a man or lady who is prayerful and obeys God. You minister to people, an active member of your church, got a degree with a distinction and you are hard-working but you are failing to buy basic needs. And someone who is lazy does not obey God and you don’t even know if they have a degree or not but they seem to be doing well in life. As the palmist says “This person has no struggles; his or her body is healthy and strong. He or She is free from the burdens common to man; he or she is not plagued by human ills.” (Psa 73:4-5 NIV) Sometimes you might not even have done anything wrong but you just start losing property, siblings etc. You start to search your heart to see if there is something that might have triggered these calamities and you cannot find anything. It might even be at work and you get accused of something that you did not do. You get arrested and then you lose your job, your family, friends etc for something that you did not do. The world is convinced that you are the culprit but you know in your heart that you are innocent what do you do? As Gods people, one of the ways we can pour out our hearts to God is through the practice of journaling. The psalms are a good example of this. They record a wide range of Christian thoughts and feelings – joy, sadness, anger, peace, and more. This is not something that will be new to you and I because this is what we normally record in our journal. When we have a fight with our partner and we are confused we open this journal and we start writing in this journal. The same applies to Christian journaling. When we are going through a rough patch we should record our cries, joys, sadness, anger and peace. These journal entries will help us know how far we have come. It will also help us to evaluate our spiritual growth; if we have people that we have not forgiven and we forget, it this journal will act as a reminder that you did not forgive so and so. As I said yesterday, this journal has the potential to preach to you and even people that will get to read your journal years to come.
