Journalist David Makali has launched his bid for the Bungoma - TopicsExpress

Journalist David Makali has launched his bid for the Bungoma Senate seat as an independent candidate. Mr Makali yesterday said his name would be on the ballot for the December 19 by-election irrespective of whether former senator Moses Wetang’ula contests or not. He dismissed claims that he will only vie in the event that Mr Wetang’ula is barred from contesting. “This is a very individual decision that is informed by my desire to offer the people of Bungoma a fresh leadership,” he said. Mr Makali will battle it out with Mr Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya), Mr Musikari Kombo (New Ford Kenya) and Mr Bifwoli Wakoli (Labour Party). The seat fell vacant after the High Court nullified the election of Mr Wetang’ula, who was also the Senate Minority Leader. The journalist said he had no support of any political party or coalition in the country and dismissed as cheap propaganda claims that he had the support of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
