Journalists in Plateau State had forgotten how to Report Crises Until of Recent - NUJ The Special Task Force in Jos, a.k.a Operation Safe Haven has expressed deep regrets over the recent incidences of attacks in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State which left scores of people including pregnant women and children dead. Gen. David Aniete, Commandant of the Task Force made the feelings of the force known in a parley with journalists in Jos where he conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the affected communities. Gen. Eneatte however sued for the support of the men of the pen profession towards nipping the security challenges confronting the state in the bud. Appreciating the matured manner journalists reported the incident, the STF Chief acknowledged that journalists in the state are some of the most responsible in the country and charged them to keep up the good work. He used the forum to allay speculations that men of the STF are coniving with miscreants to attack innocent citizens saying that the STF is committed to ensuring the security of lives and property in the state. On the issue of cow rustling which is believed to be one of the causative factors of crisis in many parts of Africa particularly Nigeria, Gen. Aniete called on the citizenry to unite against the perpetrators of such acts and report any suspicious movements to appropriate authorities. He also expressed worry over the issue of small arms ploriferation and the impersonation of the task force by enemies of development but expressed optimism that the problem will be overcome in no time. Earlier in a remark, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Katdapba Gobum commended the STF for being responsive to the security needs of the citizens but was quick to note that the force needs to rise up to the challenge of dealing with the activities of sacred cows within the force. In his words, journalists in the state had forgotten the art of crisis reporting until the unfortunate events of the recent past which he challenged the force to investigate thoroughly.
