Journey To Heath part 1 (re-post) August 3 2013 I realized in my first blog I could have sounded critical of the medical profession and that is not my intent. I have the utmost respect for those who help us live and maintain our physical health. My thought is that there are probably so many people who travel through their offices every day that it is really hard for them to know who is listening and who is not. I am sure that along the way many doctors have told me that I needed to make a change if I wanted to stay healthy. Until it hits you deeply that you need to make changes the advice just seems to fall on deaf ears. Moving on: My last blog finished with God’s words to me about His grace being sufficient. This energized me and encouraged me that it could be done. My wife and I began to do research about what could be done to see me become an over comer in this area of my life. One of the facts we heard early on from a good friend who is a medical and nutritional specialist was how diabetes affects the body. She told us there is research out that says when my blood sugar levels rise over 120 to 150 for long periods of time that there is serious damage to the body that may take up to ten years to see. There are lots of websites you can find this information on, so much so that it can be overwhelming. This site has some eye-opening and helpful information: diabetesselfmanagement/ This really hit me. By not dealing with my health issues I was reducing my life expectancy and future family and ministry opportunities. I still have a young family, what was I saying to them about their value to me if I am unwilling to do all I can to be there for them as they need me to help them with guidance and insight from all God has thought me. Put more simply was my family’s future really worth sacrificing over an extra plate of pasta because I am ignoring one of the fruits of the Spirit, self-control. Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. After really getting a hold of how dangerous diabetes is the first thing I did was ask God to forgive me for not dealing with my lifestyle issues sooner. I had been overeating for years and had not built a habit of regular physical exercise in my life. I had not been a wise steward of the body God had given me. You may not have this exact issue but most likely there will be something God needs you to repent of that has been hurting you. James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Pastor Mat
