Joy, O joy beyond all gladness; Christ has done away with sadness! - TopicsExpress

Joy, O joy beyond all gladness; Christ has done away with sadness! A blessèd feast of the Holy Innocents today as the faithful rejoiced in Gods embrace of our suffering and gift of redemption for us in Christ Jesus. Particularly joyful for me: I got to sing with Cheryl Hollis Magness, Trevor Magness, and Caitlin Magness as we offered the prelude (Break Forth, O Beautious, Heavenly Light) and voluntary (O Jesus So Sweet, O Jesus So Mild) today. Entrance Hymn was stanzas 1,4,5 of Angels from the Realms of Glory, Kyrie & Gloria were from DS IV, with expanded ektente petitions on the Kyrie from the Altar Book. Psalm was Psalm 8, with the Michael W. Smith chorus How Majestic Is Your Name for the antiphon. The sequence hymn Let Our Gladness Have No End replaced the Verse and adorned the Gospel, after which the Hymn of the Day was Sweet Flowerets of the Martyr Band. (By the way, organist friends, how many of you used Christopher S. Ahlmans setting for the prelude today? Its very nice - and the only option I found in my library, depsite its considerable size. Thank you Chris - and Kevin Hildebrand & CPH - for all your work on the new LSB Hymn Prelude series. It is definitely a blessing to the church.) Offertory was stanzas 1,3 of What Child Is This? (introduction & harmonization by David Schack). Communion hymns were Gentle Mary Laid Her Child (prelude & harmonziations by John Behnke); Infant Holy, Infant Lowly; O Rejoice, Ye Christians, Loudly (with congregation singing the refrain and Caitlin & I taking turns on the verses; accompaniment was my contemporary ensemble arrangement.) Closer was Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. Postlude: Wilbur Helds setting of IN DULCI JUBILO. SDG!
