Joyce Banda: Wants Access to State Residences Written By: Sinolia Paulo on August 16, 2014. Former President Joyce Banda has written the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) asking for permission to access Sanjika and Kamuzu Palace purportedly to collect her household items, Malawi Voice can reveal. In a letter dated August 12, 2014, signed by Banda’s sister and Former State Residencies Director of Household Cecelia Kumpukwe, the former President alleges that some of the items were not collected during her vacation from the Presidential Residencies. The letter addressed to Acting Chief Secretary Willie Samute, argues the items were not collected due to delayed transport provision. According to Kumpukwe the items are; One container at Sanjika with assorted medical equipment and assorted personal items such as; linen and various family collections from Kamuzu Palace. “The items were not collected due to delay in the provision of transport to ferry the items and also bureaucracy in security clearance. I will therefore be grateful if the State Residence can avail the personal effects to the Residence of the Former President or allow access of the Former President to identify the said items,” reads part of the letter. Meanwhile, there is no immediate reaction from the Secretary to Government. In his immediate reaction a Social commentary wondered as to why it took Joyce Banda who lost miserably to State President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika such long to realize she had some items remaining at State Residencies. He also wondered to how one can ascertain that the said medical equipment is personal and was bought by Joyce Banda. “This honestly does not make sense all, how can one tell that indeed this medical equipment is personal and it belonged to Banda? I personally believe there is a sinister motive behind her request,” said the commentator.
