Joyful Giving 1 Chronicles 29:9, 14, 16 & 17 Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about joyful service and what it should look like. I have considered service to God and service to others, and I’ve even considered allowing others to serve me as a kind of service. Then, when I ran across these verses in 1 Chronicles, I was struck by the idea that giving is yet another form of service. When the Israelites were asked to give to build the Temple of God, this was their response: “The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD, and King David was filled with joy” 1 Chronicles 29:9 (NLT). This verse makes it clear that when we give back to God, we are the ones who are abundantly blessed. What a beautiful thought! We are blessed in the act of giving, and our hearts overflow with joy when we see the difference our gifts make. After reading this verse I had to ask myself, how often do I give freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord? After all, everything I have belongs to God; why would I hold anything back? What’s my excuse for not giving freely and joyfully to God? What’s keeping me from giving my time, my talents, my money, myself wholeheartedly to God? What’s keeping me from receiving the unparalleled joy of giving to God? ~Randy & Trena Reed
