Jubilee to sponsor bill to get Ruto out of ICC mess Nairobi - The Jubilee coalition will sponsor a bill to make a sitting Deputy President immune from prosecution, in effect helping current DP William Ruto escape the ICC menace. Leader of Majority Aden Duale said that the coalition would sponsor the bill in parliament to aid Ruto, currently still haggling with the ICC over crimes against Humanity charges earn his freedom, albeit temporarily. Duale said that it was embarrassing and an insult to the sovereignty of Kenya to have its deputy President forced to attend court cases in a foreign country. We will sponsor a bill once the house returns from recess, he confirmed to News24. Duale also confirmed that the bill, which has been sponsored by Imenti South MP Mithika Linturi will get the goodwill it deserves, despite his apparent unpopularity within the coalition. Linturi is still in the bad books of many coalition members for sponsoring a motion to have Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru impeached. Duel though said that the bill would still get the support it needs. It will be fine. The issue you have mentioned is trivial and will not stop the bill, an important one as it is fail to get necessary support, he added. The bill, if passed into law will however not affect Rutos current case at the ICC. President Uhuru Kenyatta has been cleared from the ICC after the prosecution failed to provide enough evidence to sustain a trial late last year.
