Judge Ared Frazier White Ared F. White was born in Rockville, Indiana on May 27, 1843, the son of Johnson S. and Hannah Jones White. He attended the old Rockville seminary. On August 1, 1862, he enlisted in Company C, 78th Indiana. His regiment was captured in the Battle at Uniontown, Kentucky on September 1, 1862. Being released on parole, Judge White returned home and for a time attended old Asbury University at Greencastle. In 1864, he re-enlisted in the 133rd Indiana as Corporal of Company G, and was a member of the color guard. Upon his discharge from the Army, Judge White re-entered Asbury, from which he graduated in the class of 1867. He studied law while in his senior year at college with John Hanna, one of the leading lawyers of the State, and the entered the office of John McLaughlin at Rockville. He became deputy prosecutor a few months after his admission to the bar. Later, he was elected prosecutor of Parke and Montgomery counties. Judge White married Sarah C. Strouse on October 21, 1869. There children were: Fannie S., Nellie D., Jacob S. (attorney), and Helen M. White. Ared was elected Judge of the newly created 47th Judicial Circuit in 1886. He was re-elected on 11-8-1892 (2502 votes) and again on 11-8-1898 (2781 votes), serving continuously for eighteen years. Upon his retirement from the bench, Judge White went into partnership with his son, J. S. White, creating the firm White and White (offices over the Parke State Bank). Judge Ared F.
