Here are the facts of the case: Pamela (The Plaintiff) submits as follows: She had approached Mr Dickson (The latest in a string of landlords to decline her), to rent his property for two years. He had accepted her deposit from the agency only to return it when he found out she was single. She is a graduate of International Law and earns just under 6 million naira per annum. She can afford the rent. Her parents live abroad and this her blue chip job meant she had to live here in this country. It is short sighted stereotyping that is influencing the landlords decision. The landlords daughters could actually benefit from having someone like her around. Mr Dickson (The Defendant) submits as follows: The said property shares a common compound with his, and he has young daughters, who he doesnt want exposed to the male suitors who would potentially come calling for Pamela or her friends. The estate residents association frowns on residents letting properties to single young girls as it gives the wrong image of the neighborhood. This single young lady would be better off in her parents house or with relatives for her own good and to attract the right sort of suitor for a husband.
