Judging from the hemorrhaging of my friends list, I pissed a few people off yesterday. Heres a bit of medical advice, free of charge. Dont hold your breath waiting around for an apology. To be conservative implies there is something about the status quo worth saving. Ive long since had my fill of hungry schoolchildren, poor people forced to beg sanctimonious institutions and parsimonious politicians for grocery money, sick people turned away from hospitals and clinics because some accountant is practising medicine, and schools more interested in the recitation of fairy tales than the inter-generational transmission of knowledge. So far as Im concerned, we have squandered thirty years we couldnt spare in the pursuit of the resurrection of a golden age which never, in fact existed. And all weve got to show for the effort is economic disparity at levels which the Tsars considered dangerous, an environment teetering on the brink of implosion, and a listless population of young people indentured to the system through debt and scarcity of opportunity. Theres not a damned thing about any of this which I believe warrants preservation. Therefore, Im a Liberal. I no longer feel circumscribed by the conventions which require me to dance around the sensitivities of those who, for whatever reasons, insist upon thwarting all collective attempts to move beyond this miasma. Guess you just caught me on a bad day...
