Judiciary strike paralyses judicial activities in Ekiti 2015-01-06 15:00 Ado-Ekiti - The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in Ekiti, on Monday, joined other states in the federation to embark on an indefinite strike over autonomy for the judiciary. The strike had paralysed judicial activities at the courts as gates leading to both the state high courts and magistrates courts were under lock and key. Lawyers and litigants were not allowed into the court premises for their normal judicial duties. The state’s JUSUN Chairman, Niyi Ogundare, told newsmen that the strike was nationwide, endorsed by the union’s National President. Also read: Lawyers, litigants locked out of courts in Oyo State Ogundare said that the court had ruled in favour of the judiciary workers on autonomy and had ruled in favour of payment of salary and maintenance allowance for judiciary workers. He said the strike would continue unabated until government agreed to the terms. A lawyer, Chris Omokhafe, pleaded with members of JUSUN to call off the strike, saying it would affect their business. Another lawyer, Blessing Ajileye, said if the court refused to work, business would be bad for them.
