Judy Turner an Iredell County Grandmother-- I dont usually write. I leave that to Cotton who always has such a beautiful way of putting down what needs to be said. But my oldest grandchild, DJ, will be going to Afganistan. He says that being a Soldier, is what he has always wanted to do...be a Soldier. Having known him all of his life, I know this is true. When people thank him on the street for chosing a job protecting the United States I am SO proud of him. What I am so hurt by is the fact that my grandson is willing to lay his life on the line so we can have our freedom, which must be the best of freedoms because people from all over the world are doing their best, by hook or crook, to come here to live. Then we start changing laws and government starts telling us what of our freedoms we can have. If a football team or anyone wants to get on their knee and prayer then no one should have a right to stop them as long as no one is being forced to do it. That is taking my right of prayer away. I am not offended by any other religion for their rituales as long as I am not being forced to participate. Freedom is choice. I pray that DJ is not laying his life on the line for nothing. We have always been the strongest of Nations. As long as we send our Soldiers out to lay their lives on the line to protect us and what we are suppose to stand for, PLEASE dont give those rights away at home. I PRAY, that an Angel sits on DJs shoulder and he walks in Gods shadow and he comes home safe, along with all of our Soldiers! DJ, you are loved and supported by all of your family and friends. I pray that the country he works for, also supports what he is fighting for!!! I love you DJ and hold you in my heart and prayers every minute of everyday!!! LOVE AND PRAYERS!!!!! P.S. We will have one of our big family get togethers when you get back. What will it be, water guns, silly string, etc?
