Judy and I enjoyed visiting our grandson, Scot, at North Georgia - TopicsExpress

Judy and I enjoyed visiting our grandson, Scot, at North Georgia University in Dahlonega this past weekend, a nice place to attend college. We also visited the Dahlonega Gold Museum, a state historic site. Seeing Roadside Geology of Georgia on display, we used the opportunity to buy a copy. Witherspoon had recently given a well-received talk about the book (I regret that I missed a similar talk given in the Columbus area). I have used “Roadsides” a lot and when I opened Gore and Witherspoon’s text I realized that Mountain Press has attained a higher level of production values than I have been accustomed to. The book is full of well reproduced photographs and maps, all in sparkling color. Georgia is a tough state: big, diverse and full of Geological controversies what a lot of information to absorb and make sense of for a less geologically educated public. The Index is nearly 20 pages long and there are nine pages of references. There is also a list of museums and exhibits. Very useful. I won’t try to judge the geological reporting for other areas, but the Columbus – Manchester coverage is great. A regret I have is that Schamel’s 1980 fieldguide to the area is not listed among the references. Can’t get them all. Anyway, Pam and William, your hard work has paid off and congratulations to MP for their fine production job. https://facebook/RoadsideGeologyGA
