Julian Draxler reveals he wanted Arsenal move. Julian Draxler wanted to join Arsenal in January. Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler has reportedly revealed that he wanted to join Arsenal at the start of the year. The 20-year-old, who produced an outstanding display against Chelsea on Wednesday night, revealed all to ArsenalFanTVs Moh Haider as he was leaving his hotel for Stamford Bridge. Reports have embedded Haiders tweet, which features three questions that he managed to ask the youngster before Draxler realised that he may have revealed a little too much information. Draxler was asked whether there was any truth in the rumours of him coming to Arsenal, to which he replied: Yes. He then gave the same answer when asked whether he wanted the transfer to Arsenal to happen. But when quizzed as to why the transfer failed to materialise, the talented playmaker responded: This isnt an interview!. Draxler Revealed Different Information In June: Draxlers comments are in sharp contrast to answers he gave the the earlier this summer. Back in June, following Germanys 4-0 win over Portugal at the World Cup, he told reporters: In January there was an offer from Arsenal but I decided to stay. I want one more year in Schalke. Draxler is widely considered one of the best young footballers in Germany and has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, with reports back in January suggesting Arsene Wenger was considering paying the players €45.5 million release clause. Despite his age, Draxler has already made 152 appearances for Schalke, scoring 27 goals. And he lifted the World Cup in Brazil this summer even though he only made one substitute appearance in the showpiece international tournament. Wenger Wants To make Draxler His New RVP: Wenger reportedly wanted to tie up a deal for Draxler in January in order to turn him into Arsenals new Robin van Persie. The Gunners boss believes Draxler has the ability to follow in the footsteps of the former Arsenal captain, who started his career as a wide player before developing his game and becoming a first class centre forward. Wenger remains keen to strengthen his attacking options, despite the £16 million acquisition of England international Danny Welbeck from Manchester United earlier this month, and may consider returning for Draxler when the transfer window re opens in January if he continues producing eye catching displays. However, if Wenger secured Draxlers services, this would increase the uncertainty over the future of Mesut Ozil, who has come in for yet more criticism following his dismal display against Borussia Dortmund.
