Julie Borowski John Stossel, who I am a fan of, writes at Reason: "My electronic privacy has already been utterly shredded by Google, Amazon, YouTube and so on. They know with whom I talk, what interests me and how much time I spend doing this or that. They creep me out with targeted ads. How did they know I want that?! Oh, right ... I spent an hour searching ..." *My response*: There is a big difference between private companies (Google, YouTube) collecting information and the government. YouTube is voluntary-- no one forces you to use it. Government is not. Companies have Privacy Policy Agreements that openly say how they will collect and use your info. Once you click to agree to Terms and Conditions, you enter into a voluntary and legally binding contract. Plus, there is an option to opt out of Google ad tracking. On the other hand, government collecting and managing your information is not voluntary and you have no legal recourse.
