July 11, 2013 1 Timothy 2:8-15, “I desire, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument; also that the women should dress themselves modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hair braided, or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God. Let a woman learn in silence with full submission. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she is to keep silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet she will be saved through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with modesty.” Loving God, thank you for today. Thank you for Jesus who has redeemed us and made us acceptable and holy in your sight now may we always live up to that holy cleansing. Father as we read the words to Timothy help us recognize the secular influence that was weakening the foundational church and creating chaos in relationships and objectifying you. It is difficult for us to read these hard words from this pastoral letter without wincing and cringing. Help us to see that the corrupting influence crept in through the outside word and it was through those influences that the leaders of the church attempt to slow the demise Father. Make us wise enough to recognize satan’s siren call and harmless enough to welcome the stranger. Give us your holy strength Father for the demons abound even in our midst in the church. Hear our prayers this day for those who are battling for their physical existence and for their loved ones as they endure the struggles together; for those who are facing new dilemmas in health, healing and chronic conditions; for those who are recovering from medical procedures, treatments, injuries and illnesses; for those who’ve turned their back on you and the church; for the traveler; for those who’ve retired from labor or who are doing so soon; for the weary and weak; for those who mourn; for the men and women of the military, police, fire, protective, emergency and medical services both here and abroad and also their loved ones as they serve. We pray for our leaders and those in high office to be righteous and holy – to set aside the bitter practices that divide and focus on doing what is right and holy. Drive satan from the governance of our nation and from the altars of our congregations. Heal the nation and the church Father. We pray this in Jesus’ powerful Name. Amen.
