July 12. LtC Kinnard led another Ramrod to Munich, repeating to route from the day before, Up at 1024, the Group made landfall at 1110 but location unknown due to cloud cover. The 355th swept from Verdun to Strausbourg before making R/V with the fourth through sixth boxes of the 4th TF at 1225 south of Mannheim. The last box of 3rd BD B-17s reported being 23 minutes late. The 358FS loitered for 30 minutes then proceeded to Munich to resume escort. Cloud coverage was 10/10 and bombing was performed by radar as before with unknown results at 1318. Escort was completed at 1430 east of Nancy for the 354 and 357FS but the 358FS broke escort near Valenciennes at 1508. Landfall at Dunkirk at 1530 and everybody down by 1608 and 1620 Uneventful except for heavy flak over Munich and one B-17 with two engines out was seen dropping into the cloud cover heading for Switzerland.
