July 16, 2014 . LIVING IN THE FAST LANE . Isaiah 52:12 But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard. . I remember back when I was fourteen years old. It was a year I will never forget because we were hit directly by Hurricane Beulah. It came as a category four and slowed down to a category three. We lived by the golf course so we had no protection from the winds that hit us at over one hundred miles an hour for what seemed forever. Before the hurricane we had had about twenty plus inches of rain. Then the hurricane brought about twenty-five plus inches of rain water. That meant our water reservoir was about to overflow and the dam was in danger of breaking. So they released the water into the floodway system that was built to keep our area from flooding. It would have worked except one of our richer politicians had leveled the levee to make his backyard golf course and in doing so it weakened the walls of the levee, causing our neighborhood to receive about nine feet of water, my home being one of those houses. It was about 3:00 AM when the fire engines sounded their sirens and forced us to evacuate our home, taking only what we were wearing. Within an hour, our community took haste and left our homes to the mercy of the river and its floods. . There are times when we have to hasten our departure if we are to survive the calamity that is before us. But Isaiah encouraged the Israelite people that when they are walking right with God the Creator, a hasty departure will not be necessary for God the Creator will stand before us and do the fighting. Isaiah wrote, But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard. This is a promise that belongs to everyone whose heart is right with God the Creator and desires to do what God the Creator has placed in their hearts. We do not have to worry about tomorrow and flee in defeat, because when our hope and trust is in God the Creator, He will go before us and be our rear guard. We had to evacuate our home in the middle of the night, leaving everything we had to the mercy of the river. When we are walking right with God, we leave everything at the mercy of God the Creator who will tell us how to live and bless us according to our faith.
