July 16 Council Meeting: The city is ready to begin a phase of the grant funded pressurized irrigation project connecting the Westfields to pressurized irrigation systems of subdivisions. The idea is to build a park called Bartholemew Park at about 2600 E Canyon road. At the park will be a pond (which people will be able to swim in. The pipeline will go from that area down River Bottom Road/900/800 South and 700 South down to 950 West and then connecting to subdivisions. What it means for this summer is road work. Below is a link to the plan for Bartholemew Park. The power department is buying natural gas hedges the rates for which will be the next three years. What is means is for the next three years the power department can buy a specified amount of natural gas for the price established today regardless of the current market value. A couple came to the meeting to request the council consider lowering the current requirement of 75% grass or other plants in park strips. The homeowners, not knowing the code, landscaped with rock instead of grass to save water and have been cited. Two members of the council agreed to recommend the planing commission take a look at the code (11-6-204) to see if it needs to be updated, but did not request the code be changed. The council will discuss again the issue of ground source heat pump systems or geothermal home/business heating & cooling systems. The issue was discussed and the council voted to bring it back after more information is gathered.
