July 17,2013 Bulacan observes NDPR week CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan thru the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office joins the nation in celebrating the 35TH National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week from July 17 to 23, which is anchored on the theme “Building an Inclusive and Non-handicapping Environment for Persons with Disabilities.” Activities lined up for the celebration include free cleft palate or harelip pre-screening held last July 12 and free operation on July 22-23; orientation for Autism Awareness on July 17 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center; participation of Bulacan province in the regional NDPR week dancing and singing contest and anti-pneumonia vaccination and “Basta’t Bulakenyo Kahit May “K” Okey”, a cultural and variety show which will showcase the talents of PWDs on July 19 at SM City Baliwag. Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that NDPR week is being observed yearly in the province and aims to stimulate public awareness on the issues and problems of disability by encouraging the public to take active responsibility in the upliftment of the economic and social conditions of Persons With Disability (PWD). Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office head Rowena Joson-Tiongson said that the free cleft palate or harelip operation is in cooperation with the Provincial Committee for the Welfare of Disabled Persons and Philippine Band of Mercy. “Ginagawa natin ito taun-taon para ng sa gayon ay makatulong tayong maibalik ang ngiti sa mga taong ito,” added Tiongson.
