July 17, 2014 Dear Mr. & Mrs. Rhea: Thank - TopicsExpress

July 17, 2014 Dear Mr. & Mrs. Rhea: Thank you for contacting me regarding impeachment proceedings against President Obama. Like many Kentuckians, I am outraged with President Obamas administration abusing its constitutional powers and failing to cooperate with Congress. I am deeply concerned by the numerous reports of misconduct by the administration, from the lack of accountability and answers resulting from the attack in Benghazi to the improper care some of our veterans have received while at government facilities and most recently the circumstances surrounding Sgt. Bowe Bergdahls release, among others. In addition to reports of misconduct by the administration, I also disagree with many of President Obamas policies, in particular his effort to eliminate coal as an energy source. In Kentucky, coal is the baseload choice of energy used in 93 percent of electricity generation and the industry provides thousands of good paying jobs. The loss of coal fired-power plants in Kentucky and nationwide would be detrimental to our economy, affecting low income households who already struggle with their electricity bills, and those who rely on jobs in the coal industry. As you may know, the United States Constitution grants the House of Representatives the responsibility and authority to impeach the President, Vice President, and other federal civil officers found to have engaged in treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Unfortunately, at this point in time, there is not enough support in Congress to impeach the President. I will continue to monitor this issue closely and do everything in my power to stop President Obamas reckless agenda. It is truly an honor and privilege to represent Kentuckians of the First Congressional District. As a country, we find ourselves in trying times with difficult decisions and policy debates on the horizon. I will continue to advance items that are in the best interest of my constituents, the Commonwealth, and our nation. Your input is critical as I participate in these decisions and I look forward to hearing from you again in the future. Sincerely, Ed Whitfield Member of Congress P.S.
