July 23, 1907 Truro newspaper Economy Notes: ECONOMY, COL.CO. - July 22 - Mr. John James Starritt, of Vancouver, has been visiting friends here for a few weeks. Mr. Starritt was formerly from Pleasant Hills, Economy, but has been away for about 20 years. Mrs. Herbert J. Stephens, of Truro, with her two children, are visiting friends here. Mr. William Chisholm and Miss Mary Moser, of Highland Village, were guests of Mr. & Mrs. Enoch Huntley for a few days recently. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Welsh and family of Oxford have moved to Central Economy. mrs. Freeman Taylor, New Hampshire, is visiting her parents, Mr. & Mrs. John Welsh, Economy. Mrs. Duncan Robinson of Boston is spending the summer months at her residence, Central Economy. Her husband is expected later. There was quite an excitement last Tuesday, July 16, when the Presbyterian manse was seen to be on fire. About 50 men and women gathered and did all they could. After some efforts to find the fire, it was seen that the house could not be saved. Much of the furniture was saved and doors and windows, but quite a lot of goods were destroyed. Mr. Leck was absent at the time. He and his family have moved for the present to Mr. Soleys house, formerly owned by Mr. Richard Hill. Mr. D.N. Mcdonald and sister Miss May McDonald of Harmony were visiting their sister, Mrs. S.C. Moore, for a few days recently. Mrs. James S. Moore and family of Boston, are spending a few months here. Athena Lodge had a picnic up the Economy River last Saturday. Master Frank Berry of Boston is visiting relatives here for a few days. Miss Edith Smith of Truro is visiting her friend Miss M.F. Murray for a few days. Mr. Aliburton Hill is quite unwell at present.
