July 23 Minding Your Thoughts Mark 14:64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death. The High Priest asked Jesus if He was the Christ to which the Lord replied, “…I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” This is true! However the High Priest told the people within hearing range that the Lord spoke blasphemy. This is an example of one person influencing the thinking of others wrongly. What they should have done is wait, think about the Lord’s assertion, pray about it, and study the Scriptures concerning the Messiah. But no, the High Priest used his position of trust to push his agenda which was to rid the world of the influence of Jesus. The power, position, and prestige of the High Priest was being threatened by this interloper, this so called Christ. It did not matter that Jesus was truthful in His claim, it only mattered that the High Priest wanted Him gone, eliminated, even put to death. They all heard the same thing from Jesus, but the High Priest took it upon himself to tell others what to think about that which they heard. This happens every day. Someone in power tells others what to think and is successful in pushing their agenda. Ladies and gentlemen, God gave us the ability to think on our own. Exercise that God given right and think things out for yourself. Paul said of the believers in Berea, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” (Acts 17:11) Those Christians in Berea were not content to let anyone else do their thinking for them, not even the Apostle Paul, so they searched out the matter for themselves, they did their own thinking. The more some try to mold your thinking without giving you the freedom to think about the matter at hand, the more careful you should be in yielding to them. Truth never minds being searched out, but lies must be acted on quickly. Today those who were in the crowd that were influenced by that High Priest know they were duped, but it is too late. They spit on Him, slapped Him, and ultimately cried out for Christ to be put to death, in part because they let one man influence their thinking wrongly. May the Lord Bless and be pleased with your thought life today. William T.
