July 26 & 27, 2013 On Saturday I was invited to dinner with Colin Scott Mackenzie and his wife at his cottage next to the white bridge over to the tiny island of Bernera. Colin, a former Procurator Fiscal and Highland Sheriff (see my long report) is author of The Last Warrior Band, the story of the young men from Lewis who fought in Gallipoli in 1915. I thought I would have a quiet day on Sunday…I attended the Gaelic Service at the Free Church of Scotland up in Ness at the northern tip of Lewis, because I had heard how unique their singing of the Psalms was (and indeed it was). A lady sat down next to me and asked me if I was a stranger. I was, and so I was invited to lunch where I spent 4 hours in wonderful conversation with Annie MacSween and her husband Iain, a retired fisherman. ~Alan Bryce in Scotland
