July 27, 2014: Good Sunday Morning! The CAP held last night over - TopicsExpress

July 27, 2014: Good Sunday Morning! The CAP held last night over eastern Missouri and far southern Illinois (collective yay from those who did not want to deal with storms). A CAP is a warm layer aloft that can keep storms from forming. That has been the question since Thursday. Would the CAP hold or break. And, now we know! Today the cold front, we have been talking about for the past week, will push into and through the area. This cold front will usher in much below normal temperatures for the new work week. It will once again feel more like May or September rather than late July. Some thunderstorms could develop today as the front moves in. It appears the best chance of that happening would be over Kentucky. Whether or not southern Illinois will pick up any action is debatable. Until the front clears the area there is at least a chance for additional storms. The atmosphere will be quite unstable today. Any storms that form could produce frequent lightning, gusty winds, and even hail. Monitor NOAA Weather Radio or other sources if you have concerns. I will post some links below.
