July 27. Bad weather - no mission for all Mustang fighter groups... Lieutenant Raymond Silky Morris said his goodbyes and departed the 355th for re-assignment to 496FTG to join Albert Starr and Gil Wright as instructors for next couple of months. The 496th was de-activated in the Fall and all instructional training for new replacement pool became de-centralized at each Fighter Group. The new concept became most known as Clobber Colleges and several war weary P-51Bs were converted to two seat trainers to facilitate the training.
