July 28, 2014 Dear Mrs. Painter, Thank you for contacting me regarding annual funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). For Fiscal Year 2014, the NEA is funded at approximately $146 million, which is more than a 5 percent increase above the Fiscal Year 2013 level. These funds support grants and programs that promote arts research, education, and public outreach, and they prioritize funding for underserved populations. The arts enrich our communities and preserve the continuity of Americas cultural heritage and they provide us with entertainment and improve our quality of life. However, our record deficits and rising national debt jeopardize these programs for future Americans. For this reason, I am committed to replacing Washingtons culture of wasteful spending with principled stewardship of your hard-earned tax dollars, so that we may continue afford to provide to adequate funding for our nations priorities.
