July 29. History Parade 1773. Moravian missionaries in Schoenbrunn, Ohio, built the first schoolhouse west of the Allegheny Mountains. 1786. The Pittsburgh Gazette, the first newspaper west of the Alleghenies, begins publication. 1889. Wichita Falls is incorporated and railroads paved the way. As the Ft. Worth and Denver Railway Company begin laying track west out of Ft. Worth in 1881, residents from Wichita Falls enticed them to come threw their town by giving right-a-way. When the railroad reached town it set off a boom. Frank Kemp and his nephew , Kell became transportation moguls building other railroads and street car systems. 1958. President Eisenhower signs legislation creating National Aeronautics and Space Administration , NASA. In response to the Soviet Unions successful space launches, In 1961 President Kennedy set a national goal to have a man on the moon by the end of the decade. NASA builds its training and control center near Houston. 2005. Astronomers announce that images taken at the Palomar Observatory in California have revealed evidence of a distant object larger than Pluto orbiting the sun.
