July 3, 2014 Fourth of July holiday – what a great weekend, - TopicsExpress

July 3, 2014 Fourth of July holiday – what a great weekend, and the weather looks perfect. I cannot help but remember the times as a child when my mom and dad would take us all to the Lakefront for a family picnic. My brother and sister and I would run around and get horrible sunburns. Dad would grill hamburgers on the portable grill and we would jump in the lake to cool off. Those were innocent times and a whole lot less stressful. Today, in the world of the internet and texting, trying to pin my kids down for some family time is like me trying to fly to the moon. But, huge surprise, my son and daughter both have announced that they are accepting my invitation to have their friends over for an old fashioned barbecue. Panic! What do I serve to teenagers? This one is a vegan, that one doesnt like hamburgers, and a bunch will eat everything in sight. Wow, what a positive problem! I guess that I will go to Dorignac’s and just load up on everything. That’s the beauty of living in our country, any citizen, just like me, can just walk into a grocery store and reap the bounty of the extra ordinarily rich success that is America. We live in a great Land. The wealth of this Land is beyond belief. Our National celebration marks a time when we must reflect on the foresight of our nation’s Founders as we are their beneficiaries. Let me rephrase that, we are the beneficiaries of the foresight of the Founders, but generations of our people have intrinsically understood the merits built into that strategy. To our predecessors, be they the Founders, our military, our political leaders, everyone who worked hard to make this country great, we all owe a deep debt of gratitude. Happy 4th of July to all! Please wish me well that I am successful in feeding an army of teenagers! Conrad Appel
