July 30, 2013 More support for flood-affected small businesses Small businesses impacted by the recent floods in southern Alberta and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo are now eligible for additional support for their recovery efforts. The Small Business Rebuilding Program will provide support to small businesses with 21 to 50 full time employees and is fully funded by the Government of Alberta. This new program complements the existing Disaster Recovery Program (DRP), which provides assistance to organizations with up to 20 employees, as well as the recently announced Hand-Up plan, which provides low-interest loans and interest rebates. “Small businesses play a big role in every community and the Alberta economy, and we want to give them the best possible chance to return to normal operations,” said Doug Horner, President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance. “Businesses can apply now for this additional boost. This program, along with the Disaster Recovery Program and the Hand-Up Plan, is another important part of the Redford government’s strategy to rebuild Alberta.” The eligibility criteria for the Small Business Rebuilding Program mirror program eligibility requirements for small businesses under the Disaster Recovery Program (DRP). This program also uses the same application form as DRP. It can be downloaded and mailed to the address provided on the form. “A lot of businesses that were affected by the flooding are at risk of not being able to reopen their doors and can use all the assistance they can get. The Small Business Rebuilding Program will help businesses in the Calgary region get back on their feet and get back to business as quickly as possible,” said Adam Legge, President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber. Our government was elected to keep building Alberta, to live within its means and to fight to open new markets for Alberta’s resources. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
