July 30th, 1978. Tropical Storm Amelia, formed just off the Texas coast. The poorly organized storm made landfall the following day in Corpus Christi. While its coastal impacts were mostly insignificant, Amelias effects inland were disastrous. The storms remnants dropped 48 inches of rain near Medina, TX creating disastrous flooding and claiming several lives. Amelia wasnt done however. The storms remnants continued through Texas and turned north where Albany, Texas and the surrounding area was hit hard by heavy rain. Rainfall amounts around 30 inches fell in the area and several more lives lost. The final statistics for Amelia were around 30 dead and over 100 million in damages.
