July 6th, 1935: Dalai Lama is born. On this day, an infant named Tenzin Gyatso, future leader of Tibet and beselling author, was born to a peasant family in Takster, Tibet. At age two, he was named the fourteenth Dalai Lama. In 1959 an unsuccessful Tibetan nationalist uprising led to a crackdown by China, and he fled to India.
