July 7, 2013 I have a wonderful story to tell. I and my sister met with a rather interesting acquaintance of mine today, from 50 years ago. Neither of us gave a thought back then to our paths ever crossing again. In our day when we were both about 17, working our 1st or 2nd job . I was married he was single, we were kids. We didn’t even talk to one another, he said he was shy, I was shy too, in many ways, didn’t carry on conversations with many people……I was a car hop, he was the cook at…..Dels Drive Inn. Owned by the Haggler’s who owned many other historical places in Lawton that are some, long gone. Kater Inn for one, also what was called Del’s Big Chef which is now called Big Chef……still owned by the Haggler’s. (as far s I know). I leaned today he went on to college, got his bachelors in Art. From there he went on to another collage and studied seminary. I learned so many interesting stories about him. To get to the nitty gritty of this story, I’ve been seeing his art on FB. Knowing he didn’t remember me at all, I face booked him and ask would he be interested in painting a picture of my first great granddaughter. He said something to effect I’ll think about it. So I figured he would give me answer at some point. I waited a few weeks before getting back with him, surely thinking I would get an answer yes or no to my request. Yesterday when I ask again, are you interested? if not, that‘s fine, just wondering. He said sure I’ve painted that little girl. I was shocked! He was waiting for me to get back with him, he didn’t figure that I would, that I’d forgotten about it. I told him no way could I have forgotten I wanted that picture! Timing was right, I got with him just before he leaves to go back home to Oregon TOMORROW. I almost missed out! The rest is history, we met on Big Rock in Medicine Park…….I got to know him, he is a wonderful and world known artist….and very much a Godly man! I feel like today was a blessing send from God……I told Hodd if we could all be surrounded by such Godly people all the time, this would be a better world to live in. Now, lots of people may have figured out who this person is………..he’s the little fry cook from Dels Drive back in 60ies,Hodd Wicker! Thanks Hodd for the day we shared, and the beautiful painting!! And can’t forget how much you saved me at hobby lobby for framing!! I have never been in Hobby Lobby to frame anything where they told me they would be ready in just a little while! The three of us went to have a sandwich, went back, they were ready to go!! I told Hodd he’s well known, it would have been three weeks for them to have done the same job for me. J Now everyone knows the “my story” Hodd, I want every day to be a blessing for you and may you’re God given talent live on. I wish I could tell all the stories I know about Hodd, it would take many days to tell of all the paintings he’s done for such prominent people over all the world. And of course many in Lawton Ok. If anyone would like to know more, he has several web sites….Hood Wicker.
