July 7th... Another thank you for another day closer to the Commonwealth Games. Number 7 - Heather Joy Miller Sigh, at some point I was always going to have to mention my Mum. Mum has put up with a lot. There was the time that now Canterbury Crusader and fringe All Black Joe Moody put my knee through my eye socket knocking me out in 2007. There was the time Troy Livesey landed me on the tip of my shoulder, while both his feet were off the ground himself, after carefully retching the muscles through my lower back in 2003. There were the times she has witnessed me shedding the last few hundred grams to make weight. And most commonly, there are the times when Mum has helped me finance this delicate operation. My Mum is always there for me. Mum never seems to be dissappointed in me, she is always unwaiveringly proud, whether I flail like a fish, or throw my opponent through the floor. She is one of my chief fundraisers, and even though I am a thousand times further away from home than she has ever been, she is still being conned into running around after me. Mum is my historian, with a solid collection of shiny trinkets from glory days, where one day Ill look back and realise how I got far too hurt and spent too much money having the time of my life. My mother however doesnt share my competitive nature, she says things like as long as you have fun and dont get hurt as well as the classic (and quite incorrect) its just a game. She does however revel in that moment of satisfaction that I get when I chalk up a W in the ledger. Mum is a big part of me getting to the games. She is my well tested safety net, my well seasoned personal assistant, and my well meaning head supporter. I like most 20 somethings dont say this enough... Thanks Mum.
