July 9th, 2014 Weather Highlight(s): Our strong upper ridge - TopicsExpress

July 9th, 2014 Weather Highlight(s): Our strong upper ridge of high pressure has flattened today resulting in a more westerly flow rather than a southerly flow. This should decrease the convective activity and also shift most of the thunderstorm potential eastward toward the OR/ID border. A marine push is expected to result in a shift to a fairly breezy west wind pattern across eastern Washington today. Next potentiall significant lightning event is expected to hit us on the weekend Fire Potential: As west winds increase over eastern WA today they have the potential to affect the large fires currently active in NW05 hence a High Risk has been issued for that event. Otherwise expect lightning caused IA activity in eastern Oregon again today but the threat for new large fires is expected to be LOW due to less than critical fuel moistures and lower levels of lightning amount expected. The next large fire threat will occur over the weekend as more significant lightning again returns. T. Marsha Preparedness Level: National = 2 Northwest = 2
