July Newsletter Lunch boxes Educators are very concerned as many children coming to care without any fruit for morning tea. As you know we ask children to eat fruit first to follow NSW health Guidelines, regulations, and National Quality Standards in regards to healthy eating and nutrition. Please make sure your child has fresh fruit in their lunch boxes- NOTE fruit squeeze does not count as fresh fruit The service has to follow regulation and child are not to consume any food with more than 15g of sugar per 100g or 600mg salt per 100g. Children’s lunch boxes will be monitored closely each day and letters will be sent home if children pack inappropriate food. If educators need to replace food that is packed, families may be charged the cost of the food. Parent Committee The service would like thank the families and parents that attended our first parents meeting. Our families come up with some wonderful ideas for our service and ideas that may improve the service. The service is looking at some fundraising ideas and our families that are attending are looking at ideas to spend the funraisning money. We will be holding our next meeting on Tuesday the 22nd July at 6pm. All are welcome! Please see our educators to put your name on the list. Names on Clothing and Shoes We had our first parents committee last week and one of the concerns from families was that other children are taking home belongings that are not theirs. Please check you children’s bag for items that may not belong to you. Children often wear the same things as others and this often confuses them and educators, it is not the responsibility of the educator to try to work out children’s belongings that are not labelled. Every item that a child brings to the service-including shoes and socks-needs to be clearly labelled with the child’s name Drink Bottles We have a lot of children bring new drink bottles to care, this is fantastic as the children love to show their educators and peers their new things. Please ensure yourchild’s name is clearly written on their drink bottles. If there is no name on the drink bottle educators will assume it has no owner and be placed in lost property and children will be given a spare one. This is a health hazard as children often have the same drink bottle and will drink from other children’s if they cannot find their name. Children Away or on Holidays A reminder to all families if your child will not be attending care or is going to be late, you need to call the service before 10am. Your child will be then be marked as absent and this will be submitted to Centrelink. If you continue to not inform the service full fees for that day may be charged (as per Centrelink rules). Screener Assessments Rylie has been coming to our service for some time now, working with some of our children. Rylie is offering Screener Assessments at a very low price for the children at the service, she will come to the service to conduct these assessments. We understand that it can be a difficult choice to make for a speech assessment, but children that may be behind in speech will be effected in other areas such as social interaction and communication skills and this is often very hard to work once things become a habit and children start school. We do understand the cost involved can be something that parents turn away from, there is funding available through some health covers (so check your cover at home) and also subsidies visits through Medicare and Rylie is very flexible and can do fortnightly visits to cut the cost down. Please if you are concerned see your educators and we can organise a visit. There is some great concern for many children attending the service who educators feel may need an assessment. Please see our educators if this is something you feel may be an idea, the screener is a one off but you will get a written report about your child and the reccomendation of a Speech Pathologist. School Leavers The year is going so fast and children and families are starting to prepare the children for starting Kindergarten. This is all very exciting for our families and children. We just ask that families please inform us of what school your children will be attending as some schools require a transition to school programme working with us to get the children ready for school. Children who wish to sleep A small reminder that if your child is having a sleep while at care or you think they may have a sleep as a one off, they need to bring sheets. Too many children are coming without sheets and the service only has a small amount of spares. They need to be clearly labelled with children’s names and placed into the sheet basket near the nappy change area. If the service needs to supply sheets families will be charged a laundry fee. Sheets need to be taken home if your child doesn’t attend the next day at care, if they are left behind or put back into the basket they will be placed into lost property, as the service does not have the space to store them. Educators would like to remind families that we understand that some children bring comforters to care, but they need to be labelled. Families need to understand that is not the educator’s responsibility to make sure they are taken home. Vacancies at the service We would like to inform families that there are now limited spaces at the service, please see Anneke or Brett if you wish to increase you child’s day. Staff changes We would like to welcome Renee to the service, Renee is moving down from the NSW fare north coast. Renee will be our new EC (early childhood teacher). We would like to also welcome Erin who has already started at our service. Erin is Certificate III trained, and we welcome her to our team. Anneke, Brett, Alice, Jade, Erin, Renee Annette and Abbey.
