July US scrap imports increase on UK and Swedish prime. US ferrous scrap imports reached a 17-month high in July as buyers purchased two bulk cargoes of prime scrap from Sweden and the UK. July US steel scrap imports totalled 377,066 mt, up from 290,765 mt in June and the highest total since February 2012, according to US Census Bureau data. Canadian scrap exports to the US totalled 286,686 mt during the month with Mexico sending 28,857 mt in July. The UK accounted for 27,418 mt of US ferrous scrap imports during July with nearly the entirety being from a bulk cargo of No. 1 bundles that had a customs value without freight of $399/mt. US steel scrap imports from Sweden totalled 32,094 mt. The Swedish exports included 17,392 mt No. 1 bundles and 12,504 mt of shredded scrap. The No. 1 bundles had a customs value without freight of $379/mt, $20/mt below the UK cargo. Steel Business Briefing 2013
