June 12 1993:June 12,1993 is a very democratic and symbolic day! A livid memory too indellible to be wished away! The memories of how 14millIon Nigerians went to the polls to vote two candidates who were adjudged as a high profile captain and a co-captain who can sail The Nigerian ship through the turbulent rivers of ethnic chauvnism, religious bigotry and socio-economic disconnect! Chief Mashood Abiola and Alhaji Babagana Kingibe represented what was then known as a Muslim-Muslim ticket! From the results then released by the then Chairman of Federal Electoral Commission,Prof Humphrey Nwosu, Chief MKO Abiola has won in all the then 19 states and the Federal capital Abuja, including Tofa, the home town of Alh Bashir Tofa who contested against Chief Abiola...The annulment of the free and fair elections led to a fiery public outpour! Symphatizers of Abiola and many patriotic Nigerians challenged the audacity of then military Head of State,Ibrahim Babangida to annul the election! Lagos State boils! The whole of South-West where Chief Abiola hailed vowed to stand by Chief Abiola...the rest is now an illustrious chapter in the history of Nigeria! It is very important for all those who believe in the ideals of June 12,1993 to fight on till Chief Abiola is posthumously declared the President of Nigeria, till every state of Nigeria declare June 12 as a holiday like it is currently happening in Lagos,Ogun,Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states! Till the Federal government names befitting monument in honor of Chief Abiola! Till every state of the Federation names fabulous monuments in his honor! Till justice is done!!!
