June 12, 2013 Faithfood for the Faithful St. John Gonzalez de Castrillo Readings: 2 Corinthians 3:4-11; Psalm 99:5-9; Matthew 5:17-19 Insights: MAMBABATAS O MAMBUBUTAS? Bro. Celton SIndo, SOWER The Jews were also called the “people of the law” as best described in Psalm 119:17, “Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all day long…” But the Scribes, law experts during Jesus’ time, added many more things to the law than God originally intended. From the basic 10 Commandments, it blew up to 613 major ordinances! (365 negative, plus 248 positive). That is why Jesus often condemned the scribal law. It placed unnecessary burdens on people, which God had not intended. But let us not be too quick to judge Jesus’ “frienemies,” for we might also find ourselves guilty of the very same accusation. Tuwing nagpapalusot tayo at binibigyang katuwiran ang alam naman nating baluktot na prinsipyo o sitwasyon, wala rin tayong ipinagkaiba sa kanila. For the whole meaning of the law is summed up in one word — respect, or even better, reverence. Reverence for God and reverence for neighbor, and our reverence must be rooted on love! Prayer: Lord, give us the grace to revere and love Your law. Amen.
