June 22, 2013 Re: Race of Champions Penalties from Spencer Speedway Race On Friday, June 21st the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour had a great event at the Spencer Speedway. We would like to thank John White and all of his race officials and staff for the opportunity to put on this event and the efforts put forth by them to make it possible. As a touring series celebrating its 20th year of racing we pride ourselves on safe and professional racing at all the venues that we attend and have had a terrific track record in years past. Our teams are loyal and committed to our program as are the great spectators that follow our series. We would like to apologize to all of the track officials, safety people and volunteers for the ugly occurrence that took place with the teams of Chuck Hossfeld and Matt Hirschman this past Friday. We support hard racing and rivalries but what took place was beyond that. Most importantly, we are thankful that none of the track officials or safety workers were injured as well as our own personnel, drivers and crew during their assistance in handling the situation. All of those that were on hand, that devote their time and effort in helping to run a safe and smoothly run event can be assured that both teams will also be apologizing as well prior to any possible reinstatement. Again, we support hard, clean racing and understand rivalries but our number one focus is the safety of our teams, crews, fans and officials. There is a distinct difference between what happens in the race car and what carries over to the pit area. Emotions run high and the commitment by our teams is extraordinary but those things can never lead to further altercations. No official penalties have been released at this time. On Monday we will have a complete review of the incident with all of the parties involved and talk to our teams and officials that can give us proper insight on the enforcement of the pending penalties. We will release an official notice late Monday as to what necessary actions will be taken. Again and most importantly we are thankful that no one was injured on Friday and we will certainly take the proper actions needed to move forward. We would like to congratulate Mike Leaty on a great victory in front of his hometown fans. We would also like to commend our up and coming Rookie Modified drivers that did a tremendous job on Friday. The racing was intense and exciting and we do not want the efforts of all our teams to go unnoticed. We look forward to our next event at Holland Speedway on Saturday, July 6th. Sincerely, Andrew Harpell
